FSA statement on the publication of the report of the E. coli Outbreak Control Team

The Food Standards Agency has acknowledged the publication of the report of the Outbreak Control Team (OCT) which managed the South Wales E. coli O157 outbreak in September 2005. This report details the comprehensive investigations that were undertaken as the outbreak developed and the measures that were put into place to control the outbreak.
Joy Whinney, Director of FSA Wales, commented: 'Following the conclusion of legal proceedings last week, the publication of this report shows the effort and commitment of all members of the Outbreak Control Team in managing this outbreak and protecting public health.'
The Agency will be giving evidence to the Public Inquiry chaired by Professor Hugh Pennington, which expected to begin in February 2008.

The OCT comprised officers of the Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Bridgend, Blaenau Gwent, Vale of Glamorgan and Neath Port Talbot local authorities, the Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil local health boards, the Food Standards Agency and the National Public Health Service of Wales.
