Eat Well: Getting the Balance Right
Ref: WA09/O7HR
Food Standards Agency Wales is to hold the 2007 'Food & Well Being' Nutrition Strategy conferences in June.
The ‘Food and Well Being’ Strategy, which was launched in February 2003, gave a focus to improving the diet and nutritional status of the population in Wales. This has been further supported by the launch of Health Challenge Wales and other strategies that seek to reach specific groups within the population, such as the elderly, and children and young people. Much has been done over the last four years by all those working to improve diet, and these conferences will give an overview of the evaluation of the current picture in Wales. There will also be a review of the upcoming Quality for Food Strategy, to be launched for consultation this summer by the Welsh Assembly Government. This strategy will join up healthy eating with sustainable development, urban and rural regeneration and other policies to tackle health inequalities.
The conferences will also be an opportunity to recognise the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm shown by those engaged in community projects across Wales which promote better diet. Ten such projects will be presented with an AFAL Award for Food Action Locally.
The events will take place on 14 June at NEWI (North East Wales Institute of Higher Education) Wrexham and on 26 June at the Angel Hotel, Cardiff.
