The Food Standards Agency has welcomed the proposed inquiry announced by the Welsh Assembly Health Minister into the E. coli O157 outbreak in Wales. In addition, FSA Chair Deirdre Hutton has said that the Agency's Board will discuss in public a report on the outbreak.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said today that it has widened the investigation into the outbreak of E. coli food poisoning illness in Wales.

Investigations into the current outbreak of illness amongst Welsh children have established a link between a Bridgend meat supplier and the E. coli outbreak. As a result the supplier - John Tudor and Son - has withdrawn all its cooked meat range due to the risk of contamination of E.coli 0157.

The Award, launched in November 2003, is a scheme to recognise individual or team contributions to local nutrition initiatives that have made a positive impact on the diet or eating habits in the communities they serve.
