FSA Wales seeks older people with an interest in food and health

As part of its continuing involvement in the Welsh Assembly Government's 'Keep Well This Winter' (KWTW) campaign, Food Standards Agency Wales is looking to recruit around 25 volunteers across the country to participate in an original and exciting venture through the winter months.
Healthy eating plays an important role in the health of older people.
It can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and certain cancers, aid recovery from illness, lead to a better quality of life and help maintain independence.
The Agency is committed to providing advice and information on healthy eating, budgeting, food safety and food labelling to the over 65s and is developing a training package on these areas.
It now wishes to recruit contemporaries to deliver these key healthy eating and 'Keep Well This Winter' messages.
It is anticipated that those people interested will be over 50 years of age, with an interest in food and health.
They will be required to attend a one day regional training event before the end of December 2004 and will be provided with the background, materials and resources to equip them to deliver one hour interactive healthy eating presentations to groups of older people from January 2005.
The trainers will receive travel and subsistence costs plus a nominal fee for each event attended.
