FSA brings funds and food for thought to Cardiff information day
Monday 19 November 2001
The Food Standards Agency Wales will be bringing funding and food for thought to an Information Day in Cardiff next week. The Agency has given Age Concern Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan a £1,050 grant towards the ‘Keep Well, Keep Safe’ event to be held at the All Nations Centre next Thursday, 22 November (11am to 3pm).
The grant follows an FSA request for community and volunteer groups to apply for funding towards healthy eating initiatives aimed at people aged 65 and over. Some 17 groups have been allocated a portion of a £10,000 pot set aside by the Agency as part of its contribution to the National Assembly for Wales’ Keep Well This Winter campaign, which runs from October to February 2002.
The FSA is one of a number of exhibitors attending the information day, providing practical advice on the importance of a balanced, nutritious diet during the winter months. Other participants will discuss topics ranging from health to benefits, energy efficiency and home security.
Jayne Griffiths, an Executive Officer for FSA Wales, said: "Healthy eating plays an important role in the health of older people but the Keep Well This Winter encompasses a wide variety of issues relevant to senior citizens. I am therefore delighted that we are contributing this ¿1,050 grant to Age Concern’s open day, and wish them every success on Thursday."
