End to dairy hygiene inspection charges
Friday 14 April 2000
The Food Standards Agency Wales today issued consultative proposals to amend the Dairy Products (Hygiene) (Charges) Regulations 1995 to remove charges for dairy hygiene inspections in Wales
This is worth almost £180,000 to Welsh dairy farmers. The cost of each inspection is currently £94.
The National Assembly for Wales resolved, last year, to lift dairy hygiene inspection charges in Wales. The Assembly was unable, at the time, to remove charges in Wales as it was advised that there were state aid implications. However financial provision was made in the Assembly budget for central payment of the charges in 2000-2001
The closing date for responses is 4 May 1999.
