Scottish children's diet too high in sugar

Children in Scotland are eating too much sugar, according to a survey published today. The Food Standards Agency Scotland (FSAS) report shows that the main sources of sugar in youngsters' diets were soft drinks, confectionery, biscuits and cakes.

Following positive feedback from a seminar held in north-east Scotland last year, the Food Standards Agency Scotland is running a series of seminars to explain what the European Feed Hygiene Regulation will mean for feed businesses, livestock farmers and arable farms growing and selling crops for feed and what they will need to do to meet the requirements from January 2008.

FSA Scotland Welcomes EC Vote on Vertebral Column

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) welcomes the unanimous vote on 3 October to raise the age at which bovine vertebral column (VC) is classified as specified risk material (SRM) from 24 months to 30 months. This change restores the VC SRM controls in the UK to the position pre May 2006 when the UK harmonised with EU. The proposal represents negligible risk to consumers.
