R01051: Development of the RADFLUX database
Wednesday 20 October 2004
This research project will update the RADFLUX database which holds information on transfer coefficients and transfer factors that are used by the FSA to assess radiation doses to consumers.
Background
The Food Standards Agency needs to be able to assess the dose to consumers of locally produced food as a result of discharges of radioactive material into the environment. To do this the Agency has a suite of models to calculate concentrations of radionuclides in crops. This work will ensure that the best available information is used to derive the parameter values in these models.
Research Approach
A literature review will be carried out on relevant data and there will be an attempt to quantify the range of values for some of the data. This data will be put into a relational database format so that queries can be made. There will also be a statistical component to the database so processing can be carried out to assess the quality of the data. The feasibility of adding a Bayesian component to this work will also be addressed.
