G01009: Impact of transformation methods, construct and gene cassette architecture on the stability and expression of transgenes
Wednesday 16 October 2002
This research project aims to further scientific understanding of the effect of the method of delivery of DNA into the plant DNA structure.
Background
This project is aimed at understanding the relationships between the method of transgenic DNA delivery into the plant DNA structure, construct architecture and gene architecture on the expression of individual transgenes in barley and wheat.
Research Approach
The research will investigate whether transgene recombination prior to integration plays a role in transgene instability in the bacterial hosts and the effect of insertion of unwanted sequences. This project will also address the question as to whether scaffold attachment region (SAR) elements can increase and stabilise gene expression and whether introns play an important role as suppressers of position effects.
