Project details: Food Safety Aspects of Inorganic Environmental Chemical Contaminants
Details of Agency-funded projects under the Chemical Contaminants from Food Production research programme (C01).
C01030: Integrated assessment of the distributions, behaviour and plant interactions of lead, manganese and platinum group elements in roadside and agricultural environments
This research project aims to investigate the impact on the foodchain of contamination resulting from car exhausts.
C01040 Horizon scanning for environmental contaminants
The research project will review methodologies for identifying emerging contaminant threats to food safety.
C01041 Metals and organics in fish and shellfish from inland waterways
This research project will assess the levels of consumption of coarse and game fish and shellfish taken from unmanaged inland UK waterways, particularly in areas of known or suspected contamination.
C01045: Levels of arsenic in rice and the effects of cooking – literature review.
This research project aims to measure the levels of arsenic and inorganic arsenic in different types of rice that are commonly consumed in the UK. Specifically it will investigate the effects of cooking (e.g. boiling, steaming, etc.) on such levels.
C02070 Mercury in crops around crematoria.
This research project aims to develop and conduct a sampling and analytical programme for soil and vegetation including crops around crematoria to determine the impact of mercury emissions on food safety.
