Review of the evidence linking MAP with Crohn's disease
Thursday 22 November 2001
The Food Standards Agency commissioned this review paper by Dr Eileen Rubery, which explores the evidence for a link between exposure to MAP and Crohn's disease in humans.
The report summarises the available information on the nature of Crohn's disease and information regarding its likely causation with particular reference to the possible link to MAP. Although the concept of a link is attractive the report is unable to conclude that one exists, however, the hypothesis should not be discounted and for this reason the agency is considering ways of preventing MAP from entering the food chain.
