Invitation to Scores on the Doors evaluation workshop

The Food Standards Agency is inviting local authorities with responsibilities for food hygiene to attend Scores on the Doors evaluation workshops.
The Agency is committed to evaluating Scores on the Doors schemes across the UK, with a view to a possible recommendation about a national model.
Greenstreet Berman has been appointed to carry out this assessment and they will be holding workshops in mid to late May 2007 to explain how local authorities can become involved in the evaluation process. The workshops, which are not country specific, will last a full day, and be located at four venues across the UK – likely to be London, Bristol, Edinburgh, and Birmingham.

Greenstreet Berman are also interested in hearing from your local authority if you have no current intention of developing a scores scheme, as they are in the process of identifying potential control areas.
It is expected that the evaluation may run for up to two years, although the Agency will be seeking to bring it to conclusion earlier if sufficient evidence is available. The aim of the evaluation is to assess a range of issues, including the impact on hygiene standards, local authority burdens, consistency between different authorities, and the level of business co-operation. Consumer interest and use of the schemes will be evaluated separately.
We are aware that a lot of hard work has gone into developing individual schemes across the UK, and would be very grateful if your local authority could take part in the process and share your experience with us.

What is Scores on the Doors?
Under Scores on the Doors schemes, inspection information is displayed on the door or window in each food outlet, supported by information on a website. A number of pilot projects are being set up across the UK to test how well Scores on the Doors works in practice.
It is very important that all food businesses obey the law and supply food that is safe to eat and with Scores on the Doors, customers see how well a food business has done on its last inspection.
