Grants set for Scottish food hygiene initiatives
Thursday 6 November 2003
The Food Standards Agency Scotland (FSAS) has set aside £70,000 to support key food hygiene initiatives.
Seven grants, each worth £10,000, will be awarded locally in a bid to develop new projects or add value to already existing ones, helping to raise awareness of the essential messages underpinning the Agency's national Food Hygiene Campaign.
The campaign aims to improve hygiene standards across the UK and bring about a 20% reduction in food poisoning cases by 2006.
Bill Adamson, Local Authority Liaison Branch Head, Food Standards Agency Scotland, said: 'These grants seek to build on the significant food hygiene promotion work already being carried out across the country on a local level as well as encouraging partnership working.
'Each grant will go a long way to help move forward worthy initiatives that will reinforce key food hygiene messages to the public, businesses and organisations alike.'
Local authorities and food liaison groups throughout Scotland are asked to submit a brief project plan by 30 January 2004 to the FSAS.
