Letters to local authorities
In order to provide local authorities with a more effective means of storing and retrieving up-to-date information and guidance from the FSA, a central referencing system has been established.
Training for feed and food law enforcement officers
One of the Agency's commitments is to improve the safety of the nation's food. We work with local authorities to further develop their enforcement services. One area in which we are active is a continuing programme of quality update training for local authority feed and food law enforcement officers at a cost that is affordable to local authorities.
Imported food resources for enforcement authorities
Local authorities and port health authorities are responsible for the enforcement of food safety and food standards import controls on food products. Guidance and resources for these and other enforcement authorities are available.

What to do if you suspect or know food fraud is taking place and information about Food Standards Agency resources available to local authorities tackling food fraud.
Safer food, better business toolkit
An updated 'Safer food, better business' (SFBB) toolkit to help food law enforcement officers implement food safety management with businesses in their area has been issued to local authorities in England. An online version is also available. This pack replaces the existing 'Toolkit for enforcement officers'.
CookSafe and RetailSafe
In Scotland two packs have been produced to help businesses implement food hygiene legislation successfully. There is one pack for caterers and another for retailers.
Safe Catering
Safe Catering is FSA Northern Ireland's food safety management guide. It has been developed with help and expertise from the food industry and local authorities. This guide will help catering businesses to produce a food safety management plan based on HACCP principles and to keep records appropriate to their business.
Grants for food safety training
The Food Standards Agency today announced an additional million pounds for local authority grants to boost existing funding to train small retailers and caterers in food safety.
Grants for local initiatives
The Agency has run schemes to provide grants to support and encourage local authorities to develop and implement local food hygiene initiatives have been running since 2003 in England and since 2004 in Scotland.
Scores on the Doors
It is very important that all food businesses obey the law and supply food that is safe to eat. Consumers in certain areas can already see how well a food business in their area complies with food hygiene regulations through 'scores on the doors' schemes run by their local authority.

The FSA's Bacteria Bite Business video, which demonstrates the importance of good food hygiene, is now available to watch online.
Incident report form for food and feed recalls and withdrawals
The Agency has produced an online form so food and feed businesses can notify us if they need to withdraw products from the market. The form can also be used by food authorities to report incidents.

Local Area Agreements
Access to safe and healthy food is key to reducing health inequalities and improving the well-being of local communities. Local Area Agreements (LAAs) provide an important framework for local authorities and their partners to work together on food initiatives, recognising the critical role local authorities have in improving people's access to healthy, safe food.
Search for a local authority
Report an issue such as poor hygiene in a food outlet or a trading standards issue such as mislabelling. If you are planning to start a new catering business, you must register your premises with the environmental health service at your local authority at least 28 days before opening.

As part of the Agency’s continuing commitment to low cost training for local authority food enforcement officers, we are now making available our food sampling video online.

Guidance for local authorities on alternative sources of funding for food related initiatives, including tips on preparing funding bids, is available.
Student placement scheme
For the last five years, the Agency has funded a scheme in partnership with local authorities to help address the well-known difficulties in funding placements for environmental health students.
