Emerging incident involving distribution of Moubon Yoghurt Dessert from an unapproved establishment
Friday 23 February 2007
Food Alert: for Action
Ref: 04/2007
Current details
Enforcement officers from the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham entered the premises of Misti Ghar UK Ltd, Barking, under warrant on 20 February 2007. The premises were producing yoghurt, and were discovered to be unapproved. A number of food hygiene offences were identified. A Voluntary Closure Agreement was obtained between Misti Ghar UK Ltd and the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham. The remaining products were voluntarily surrendered.
Despite investigations by local authorities, a full distribution list is not available. The product appears to be distributed through direct van sales to small specialist Asian cash & carry stores and retailers. A list of premises where distribution may have occurred has been provided to local authorities. This is not, however, a complete list and on the basis of information received relates primarily to London boroughs. Distribution is also known to have occurred outside of the London area.
Further information will follow as soon as it is received.

Actions to be taken by Local Authorities
Local authorities with premises on the list are requested to contact those companies and establish if the product listed is still on the premises. Other local authorities are also requested to contact small specialist Asian cash & carry stores and retailers in their area to determine whether the product listed is still on the premises.
If the yoghurt reported is found to be on the premises, officers should remove it using the powers available. If necessary the Food Safety Act 1990 and regulation 27 of the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 can be used. Where possible, officers should obtain full details of where the yoghurt has been distributed to, and inform the Agency accordingly.
