Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd recalls its own-brand Tortilla Chips due to incorrect allergen labelling
Thursday 12 October 2006
Food Alert: for Information
Ref: 46/2006 (48/2006 Scotland)
Heads of Environmental Health and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware that Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has recalled their own-brand 'Taste The Difference Lightly Salted Tortilla Chips' 150g, due to a packaging error resulting in incorrect allergen labelling information.
Some packs may contain 'Spicy Multigrain' variety instead of 'Lightly Salted' variety and therefore do not show the correct ingredients or allergy advisory statement. They contain whey protein and oat gluten, which are not labelled as ingredients, and are not specified as an allergy warning, making this product unsafe for individuals who are allergic to dairy and oat or are gluten intolerant.
Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has undertaken a product recall of the affected item and their product recall notices will appear in the national press as of 12 October 2006. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all stores to notify the public of the recall. The notice advises consumers of the reason for the recall and the actions they should take if they have already purchased the affected product. In addition, Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign and Allergy UK, who will inform their dairy and oat allergic members of the recall via their websites and a mail shot.
The product recalled is:
