Dunbia Meats Ltd recalls meat and other products due to an over thirty month cow entering the food chain without being tested for BSE

Heads of Environmental Health and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware that Dunbia of Dungannon, Northern Ireland has recalled meat and other products due to an over thirty month (OTM) cow entering the food chain without being tested for BSE. It should be noted that Dunbia Northern Ireland formally traded as Dungannon Meats.

Meat and other products from the carcase were mixed with other carcases slaughtered on the same day. Because of this, all meat and other products from the production batch are being withdrawn from sale.

Authorities are tracing the distribution of the meat and meat products and are working with retailers to withdraw affected batches from sale. A list of products recalled is attached to this Food Alert. Investigations are ongoing and other products may be affected. An update food alert will be provided should further relevant information become available.

The risk to consumers is extremely low. All Specified Risk Material (SRM), which is those parts of the animal most likely to contain BSE infectivity, was removed from the carcase before it entered the food chain. The products are, however, illegal under the TSE regulations and should not enter the food chain.
