Contamination of TRS Wholesale Company Ltd products with Sudan I Dye (update)

Heads of Environmental Health Services and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware that further to food hazard warning 21/2003 relating to contamination of T.R.S. Brands of Tandoori Barbeque Ground Spices and Tandoori Barbeque Spices with the illegal dye, Sudan I, that an additional retail pack size of 100g has now been found to be contaminated with Sudan I.
Sudan I is not a permitted colour under the Colours in Food Regulations 1995. It is considered to be a genotoxic carcinogen and its presence at any level is not permitted in foodstuffs for any purpose.
This product has been on sale in T.R.S. Wholesale Co Ltd Cash and Carry outlets in Southall, Middlesex, Bethnal Green, London and Leyton, London.
The product and coding are as follows;
TRS Tandoori Masala Barbeque Ground Spice 100g BBE JUN 2005 L3 153
No other TRS Wholesale products are known to be affected.
The company have undertaken a trade recall of all affected products with a Best Before Date of up to and including June 2005.
