Heads of Environmental Health and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware of a product recall notice by Asda Stores Ltd of their own brand Mexican Sizzler Gift Set, retail price £10, Best Before End date 06/06.
Asda Stores Ltd are recalling this gift set due to the contamination of BBQ and Cajun seasoning mixes contained within the pack with the illegal dye Sudan I.
Sudan I is not a permitted colour under the Colours in Food Regulations 1995.
It is considered to be a genotoxic carcinogen and its presence, at any level, is not permitted in foodstuffs for any purpose.
No other Asda products are known to be affected.
Asda Stores Ltd have withdrawn the affected gift set from stores and issued a product recall notice in national newspapers which will appear from tomorrow.

Asda has been made aware of the presence of a non-permitted colouring, Sudan I, in the BBQ and Cajun seasoning mixes contained in the Mexican Sizzler Gift Set on sale in stores priced £10.
Asda will be taking the product off sale and is asking customers to return any sets they may have bought back to their local Asda store for a full refund.
No other products are affected. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
