Comment:
Paragraph 43. It is not practical to change or lift the OTM rule differentially by geographical area in the light of different levels of BSE incidence because of normal commercial movement of animals.
Paragraph 59. Recycling of animal material within any species is undesirable and the words "used for human, animal or fish food" should be deleted from the second sentence. The prevention of animal material recycling should be adopted as a fundamental principle to underpin the protection of the food chain, and enhance animal welfare. The final sentence should be revised to read "We recommend a complete ban on intra-species recycling." In addition to the prevention of recycling, meat should not be fed to omnivores.
Paragraph 60. Pig MBM should NOT be allowed to be fed to poultry.
Paragraph 67. The recommendation in paragraph 67, "that non-feed use of inert tallow derivatives from SRM tallow should be considered but blood, gelatin and tallow should not be used in feed" is not clear. What do the words "should be considered" mean? Should be considered by whom and for what? Are you representing a special interest group?
