Issue: GELATIN in childrens SWEETS and JELLY
I would like to know why childrens sweets still contain gelatin (ie. Rowntrees fruit pastils), when gelatin is about to be banned from being fed to cattle? I have read that research is still inconclusive as to whether gelatin poses a risk of BSE infection. As sweets & jelly are eaten by most children, regularly, surely confectionary manufacturers should be made to use an alternative. Thorntons seem to be the only company that produce vegetarian sweets. Most parents will not even realise that sweets contain animal parts. I think that if there is an alternative, then sweet producers should be made to take the safest option. Children are not able to understand that they are putting themselves at risk by eating something that is manufactured for them. They are aimed at children, so surely they should be safe, unless the manufacturers want to put a Govournment health warning on their television sweet adverts.re you representing a special interest group?
