Industry commitments to salt reduction on FSA and DH websites
Wednesday 13 December 2006
Discussion on Industry commitments to salt reduction.
Board members will wish to be aware that the table that sets out commitments to salt reduction from different industry organisations, which was last published on the DH and FSA web-sites in October 2005, has now been updated. The updated version will be posted on both the Agency and DH websites on Friday 28 July.
The key changes to arise from this current update round are that 54 (out of 70) organisations have updated their table entry, with 19 of these making new commitments or setting new targets. In addition, 46 organisations have included statements on working towards achieving the Agencys salt reduction targets, which were published in March.
It is to be expected that some organisations will not have updated their entries because of the resource intensive nature of this exercise for some companies and the additional pressures they currently face in implementing the salt reduction targets and contributing to other Government initiatives on diet and health.
Prior to the launch of the Agencys salt reduction targets, publication of the salt commitments table has not attracted any media attention and we do not anticipate any significant media interest on publication of this update. A press release is not considered necessary.
